Manhunt for suspected gunman at Walmart continues after fatal shooting

Authorities have said the suspect was found dead inside a Walmart Supercenter store in Greeley, Colorado, hours after he fatally shot a former customer.

Authorities said the gunman, identified as 27-year-old Michael Joseph Smith, had been shot multiple times.

Police said the employee, identified by law enforcement as 26-year of age, was found by police with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

Smith had been shopping at the Walmart in Greeleys store when he was shot and pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.

Police later said Smith was shot inside the store and the victim had fled the scene before police arrived.

Police were investigating whether Smith had a weapon.

A spokesman for Walmart said the company was aware of the situation and is cooperating with law enforcement.

He declined to provide further details.

Authorities identified the employee as a former store manager at the store.

The shooting comes at a time when there are mounting concerns about crime in America, particularly in rural areas.

A manhunt is underway for a gunman who killed two people at a mall in Texas and injured several others in another shooting that was caught on surveillance video.

The suspect is still at large.
